For years, former NASA scientist Maarten Sierhuis worked on technology that would help the human race reach out to the stars. However, for his next project, Sierhuis is focusing on technology that is a little more grounded. According to a press release from Nissan, Former NASA scientist Maarten Sierhuis will help develop Nissan autonomous vehicles.
During his time at NASA, Sierhuis worked to develop a series of robotics-based intelligence systems to help aid the organization with their pursuit of space exploration.
Maarten Sierhuis will now take the knowledge and expertise that he used at NASA to help Nissan with a goal that they are currently trying to pursue: autonomous vehicle technology. Autonomous driving systems allow for vehicle to drive themselves without the direct aid of the driver. Even when the driver is in control of the vehicle, autonomous driving would serve as a monitoring system to help optimize vehicle safety.
Maarten Sierhuis is currently working on a project at the Nissan Research Center that uses autonomous vehicle technology to help navigate during travel on the highway.
“Bringing this new technology to society, it will change so many things,” says Sierhuis. “And call me crazy, but for me part of my drive of wanting to be thinking about these kinds of problems is that I want it to be done right.”
For Maarten Sierhuis, space was not the final frontier. Rather, his exciting journey continues with Nissan and their autonomous vehicle project!
Summer is finally here and if you haven’t planned a vacation getaway, it’s never too late to start. While many assume any vacation is costly, there are plenty of affordable vacations anyone can take. Here are some of the best affordable vacation destinations in the United States from us here at Cronic Nissan!
Nashville, Tennessee – Home to some of the lowest hotel prices in the South, Nashville is the perfect getaway for down-to-earth adventurers. While some of the attractions are predictably country, others, like Hillsboro Village, are incredibly modern. Complete with the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville is incredibly accessible to those on a budget.
New Orleans, Louisiana – For those with more room in their budget, New Orleans is the perfect spot for a cultural experience. Boasting rock ‘n’ roll, Jazz, blues, and other types of music in a city with a European-style design, there’s something for everyone. As long as you avoid Mardi Gras, New Orleans is surprisingly affordable!
Yellowstone National Park – Spread across three states, Yellowstone National Park was founded over a century ago. Home to hot springs, meadows, geysers, forests, peaks, lakes, and more, this a place everyone should visit at least once in their life.
In-car smartphone connectivity is the way of the future as automakers continue to prove with innovative technology to make driving safer and phone use more hands-free. Nissan is no different and, with the one-year-old redesigned Maxima to work with, there’s a lot to expect. The 2017 Nissan Maxima is on sale now and with five available trims and quite a few new standard features.
Starting at $32,560, the Nissan Maxima S comes with Apple CarPlay as a standard feature. Working with NissanConnect and the Maxima’s eight-inch touchscreen, that increases a driver’s control while on the road without taking their eyes off the wheel.
As you’d expect, all Maxima trims get the technology as a standard feature. At the top of the line is the Maxima Platinum with a starting price just under $40,000. All models come stocked with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 300 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque.
Now stocked with Apple CarPlay, the Nissan Maxima, the brand’s flagship sedan, may have gained the upper hand on competitors. Combined with the powerful yet efficient engine, this full-size, four-door sports car could have the edge it needs take down its rivals.
We here at Cronic Nissan are happy to see the Maxima staying at the forefront of connectivity!
The Nissan Titan is synonymous with rugged capabilities, and the new 2017 Titan Crew Cab is no exception. This model recently premiered at the New York International Auto Show, making this the first public showing of the half-ton pickup. With a powerful engine and a range of capabilities, drivers are bound to be impressed.
The 2017 Titan performance has been increased greatly, with a new 390 horsepower 5.6-liter Endurance V8 that comes standard, according to Nissan. This may be paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, with available 4×4 and Adaptive Shift Control. An available Cummins 5.0-liter V8 Turbo Diesel also recently premiered.
“The 2017 TITAN half-ton has the same aggressive style of the TITAN XD, but is about a foot shorter in wheelbase,” said Fred Diaz, division vice president and general manager, North America Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles, Nissan North America, Inc., revealing the new truck during a press conference at the auto show. “They share the same cabs, but while it offers similar ruggedness and durability, the TITAN half-ton’s chassis is completely different than XD.”
The Titan also comes with a redesigned exterior that is a little over 228 inches, nearly a foot shorter than the larger Titan XD. We can’t wait to see these new pickups hit the streets sometime in the near future.
Nismo is Nissan’s well-known performance division that’s pumped out more horsepower and torque than we care to add up. Today every race car is driven by history to roll with a rear-wheel drive or have the engine in the middle, if not both. Nismo is defying both preferences, instead choosing to field a front-wheel drive, front engine GT-R Nismo at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Race cars roll with mid-engine, rear-wheel drive designs to improve traction and packaging. The experts and engineers at Nismo are making the case that a front engine, front-wheel drive race car has more of an advantage.
With a long front end, a front engine powering the front wheels creates more surface area for downforce. More downforce results in faster corners. With the streamlined design, the GTR-LM Nismo is quick in a straight line as well.
Nismo has had success with the front-wheel drive, front engine design in the past. From 1998 to 2000, the Nissan Primera left the competition in its searing tracks. The same engineers who built that car also worked on the GT-R.
With the front wheel and front engine, the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo rocks away with 450 hp. With Nissan and Nismo’s past success with the front design, all bets are off on what race car will take home a gigantic win.
We at Cronic Nissan aren’t about to criticize the experts over at Nismo and we’re rooting for the #23 GT-R LM Nismo front-wheel drive race car at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans!
A vehicle’s interior can make or break it. If you want an interior that combines luxury and comfort, then look no further than the all-new 2015 Nissan Murano. This popular midsize crossover was recently named on Ward’s 2015 10 Best Interiors list, making it a top choice for those who want the ultimate comfort in their vehicle’s cabin.
“First time I saw the new Murano interior, I was blown away by the pearlescent film that’s used to lovely effect on the doors, instrument panel, center console and armrest,” said Tom Murphy, executive editor for WardsAuto World. “The rest of the interior is brilliantly executed as well, from the smooth, flowing lines of the instrument panel to the ample cargo hold. Beige interiors often are perceived as boring, but this one is stylish and contemporary while achieving a serenity uncommon among midsize CUVs.”
The third-generation crossover combines a modern design, premium materials, and innovative, practical technology to offer a never-before-seen level of refinement. NASA-inspired Zero Gravity front seating provides the ultimate comfort, while the oversized Power Panoramic Moonroof allows the outside to come in, blending with the design for the ultimate effect.

Everyone has heard about the incredible Nissan LEAF fully electric passenger vehicle. The incredibly efficient, zero-emissions hatchback has changed the way drivers think about electric-powered cars and has opened the doors for other mass-produced alternative fuel vehicles. Well now, the EV segment is about to get another addition. Produced in Barcelona and set for export globally, the new Nissan e-NV200 modifies the existing NV200 cargo van with an all-electric drivetrain.
This 100% electric light- to mid-duty cargo van has been designed for maximum efficiency and interior space. With the addition of this new zero-emissions setup, the e-NV200 will be perfect for commercial deliveries within city limits or even for taxi-vehicles. In the stop and go traffic of heavily congested cities, EVs have the distinct advantage of using no fuel when stopped. During the time that would be spend idling and wasting fuel , electric vehicles just shut off their main power and rely on the smaller battery to power the accessories (radio, headlights, wipers, etc…)
“This is a great landmark day for Nissan, starting production of our second electric vehicle. This is at a time when EVs are now recognized as mainstream technology. Many competitors are only just starting to launch their first EV – where Nissan has clear first mover advantage. We’re proud that the Nissan LEAF is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle with more than 110,000 delighted customers enjoying the quiet and smooth ride of an EV.” Said Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer at Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.

Nissan is planning to bring an all new sedan concept to the Auto China show in Beijing this April. There isn’t much information yet, but many suspect it will be a follow-up to last year’s Friend-ME concept.
That concept, which really was much better than its name, had a great design and tons of high-tech connectivity features. This year’s concept should follow much in the same strain and Nissan says, “The concept expresses Nissan’s passion and focus in the world’s most dynamic auto market.”
The car will be designed by Nissan Design China located in Beijing along with the Nissan Global Design Center.
Nissan will also feature some of its other new models at the Beijing show including the BladeGlider concept, the Autonomous Drive Car, and the all-new X-Trail.
We’ll be on the lookout for more information on Nissan’s new concept car so stayed tuned to Cronic Nissan for future updates.
