Nothing is more frustrating that when you’re about to leave for work and realize that your car is stuck in snow or mud. Except for, perhaps, almost making it to your destination and realizing that you’re stuck.
The best thing you can do, especially if you are located in a snowy, muddy, or sandy area, is be prepared. Keep a strong, lightweight shovel available, as well as some sort of canvas-like material, like a large, tough tarp.
The first step to hopefully freeing your vehicle is to shovel away as much offending muck as you can and then placing your canvas slightly under and in front of the tires. Ideally, you will be able to drive away at this point.
Keep in mind – you should be accelerating slowly, which will give you the most traction possible. If you still find yourself stuck, it may be best to simply call for help. Whatever you do, don’t strain yourself and risk personal injury!
