Spring Driving Dangers: Staying Safe Behind the Wheel

Spring comes with warm weather, but there are also some dangers to be aware of while you’re on the road. These include things like potholes from the winter, more pedestrians, and spring showers—each of which can prove to be serious hazards. Below are just some of the many things to be aware of this spring as you drive.

According to AARP, one of the biggest spring driving dangers is wet driving conditions. The first 15 minutes of a downpour are the most dangerous, because rain water mixes with residual oils on the road. This can create an incredibly slippery surface. When it rains be sure to reduce your speed, provide extra space between you and other cars, especially your new Nissan, and avoid slamming on the brakes.

Additionally, you’ll have to share the road with more pedestrians and bike riders. Warm weather means more people will be out, creating added dangers. Remember to slow down when you’re in town or near schools, and avoid following bikes too closely. As vehicles, bikes are required to ride on the road (unless riders are under 10 years old), so be sure to have patience.

Finally, avoid taking allergy medication if you’re getting behind the wheel. If you must take medication, talk to your doctor about possible side effects. Many antihistamines cause drowsiness and delayed reaction time—two dangers when operating heavy machinery. These are just some of many dangers we at Cronic Nissan want you to be wary of.
