Just before the end of the year, the fourth season of Nissan GT Academy concluded by naming 21-year-old Nic Hamman the North American champion.
As the newest addition to Nissan’s racing team, Hamman, who actually won in September, has worked hard over the past several months to prepare for his first professional race, Dubai 24 Hours, on January 8th through 10th.
However, Hamman’s hard work really began as a kid growing up near Wisconsin’s Road America race course. At age six, Hamman started driving go karts and experienced success early in his racing career, leading him to bigger races where the cars were much more expensive.
“It takes a lot of money to do any kind of professional racing,” Hamman said. “What GT Academy and Nissan have done is give someone a shot at racing top-notch racing cars with professional mechanics and pit support without the financial windfall that kind of thing requires. I am so grateful to be able to do this, and I can’t wait to get to my first professional race in January.”
We at Cronic Nissan love that Hamman is able to continue pursuing his dreams thanks to Nissan’s GT Academy. We’ll definitely be keeping tabs on the team as they get ready for the Dubai 24 Hours race.
